Additive manufacturing of a splint for hand arthritis in the elderly using 3d scanning and printing

Arthritis is a degenerative disease that particularly affects elderly individuals. This condition causes pain, inflammation, and stiffness in the joints of the hands, which hinders the quality of life of affected individuals.
In recent years, 3D printing and scanning have revolutionized the production of splints, offering an alternative, personalized, and accessible manufacturing method. Additionally, data collection through measurement is an efficient solution for designing the splint.
The PLA printing material is lightweight and resistant, used in the manufacturing of splints for arthritis-affected joints. It is molded using heat to adapt the splint to the hand. The use of a padded sponge helps improve patient comfort and prevent skin injuries.
